Tata to Offer 100Mbps Connectivity (Power Launcher Series)

Published by Sunny Bajaj at 12:56 am under Internet, Internet Talks, Tech News

broadband Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited (TTML) becomes the first ISP operator in India to offer 100Mbps connection. Tata has unveiled its new Power Launcher series of Ultra High Speed broadband service.

After Airtel/BSNL, Tata will become the top ISP in India to provide such a high speed broadband service of upto 100mbps. As the word ‘upto’ has been used which means the speed may not be exactly 100mbps but somewhere near that speed.

But anyways it would the highest broadband speed provided by any ISP in India.

The connection would be offered over Ethernet and Mumbai would be first city to avail this service by Tata Indicom ie., speeds of up to 100 Mbps.

The service will been priced at Rs.10,500 per month and students will be offered a special discount of 10%.

This service will be rolled out in a phased manner across the city of Mumbai. It is being made available at Tata Indicom outlets in south Mumbai first and will cover the entire city within a month.

This type of connection speed ie., the Power Launcher Series by Tata is a dream come true for small and medium enterprise and businesses in India.

You can now start your own Web Hosting firm, Voip service, and a lot more in India that requires very high speed ISP.

“It is a somewhat niche product,” Mukund Rajan, managing director of TTML and board member of Tata Teleservices (TTSL), said. “We are working on a host of intra-city services and will make announcements very soon.”

The 1,500 km long fibre network covers all the major areas of Mumbai, but is yet to be available universally in the city. “We are expanding it beyond the 20,000 buildings connected so far, The company will roll out similar services in other markets at a later stage.

The announcement of Power Launcher Series ie., 100 Mbps connection has already lot created hype & interest among all Internet users in India. Rumors are already building up that the TTML Power Launcher Series will have a data transfer limit of 30GB.

Well let’s see how things turn out to be. :)

My Personal Opinion:

I feel the price of the service is just ‘too’ costly and I don’t expect normal users going for it unless you are a big company.

Tata must keep their prices user friendly. Moreover this service must also be launched as Wimax according to me, to prevent frequent downtime problems that a normal lan cable offers or the connection must be purely based on Optical fiber cable.

Tata must all provide this plan as night unlimited addon for its regular customers at a lower price.

There must be no capping or download limitations on the 100 Mbps connection/service plan by Tata Indicom.

I can’t think of more recommendation for Tata Indicom, please suggest some!

Thanks. your article was very informative. Tata says that they would be offering a 10 % discount to students . I still don’t understand why a student would pay 8500 rupees for a connection he won’t be able to use to its fullest unless he leaves his studies altogether to watch streaming hd movies which have to be paid for separately to the hosting website . i am a student and have a connection of 8 mbps , and i know that such speeds are sufficient to load any web page instantly though i absolutely hate the meagre download limit given to me. I want to stress the point that if internet service providers want to attract home users and students , which is indicative from their ads , they should raise the download limit instead of jacking up the internet speeds

Broad band in india where is it still ?? I have VPS server in us, They are giving me monthly 500 gb free. I get download speed greater than 4 mb (MegaByte) always.

@ Priyan: All major servers located outside India offer high download speeds but in India its still a dream to run a web hosting company or expect high download speeds.

I own webservers in UK and US datacenter unfortunately I cannot fully make use of them due to broadband speed issues in India.

Sadly, it’s all a gimmick. Tata Indicom is great at coming up with wishy washy plans that make great soundbytes. What’s the point of offering you 100MBPS then putting artificial restraints on it?

Beyond 1MBPS, if all you want to do is surf, stream a couple videos, and download files, does a higher speed with caps make any sense? Most sites do not offer bandwidth over 10mbps anyways.

Also, 30 GB data limit is a pathetic joke. At 100 mbps, you can breach this limit in a couple hours running multiple torrents.

The biggest sham of it all? Go to speedtest.net. The highest speed in India ever recorded is around 16MBPS, so ha ha ha. I guess not a single customer has opted for their sham plan or tested their speed. I long to see the day these schmucks stop teasing and give us real broadband without any FUPped up limits.

    Sam
