The Samsung Design division from China have designed a mobile phone which will enable the visually impaired users to read and write messages. The phone is called as the Touch Messenger, and it has a 4X3 braille buttons on the phone and a Braille display screen to read the message.

The “Touch Messenger” is a product designed by Samsung Design China based in Shanghai , China , a country with about 9 million visually impaired people. The product is assessed as a successful result of Samsung’s global design strategy, That is, products suited for local needs and characteristics should be designed and planned by obtaining inspiration from local markets in countries around the world.
The phone is expected to have a psotive response when it will be commercially available. But for the time being, it bagged a gold award at the Industrial Design Excellence Awards 2006.

Nokia’s iconic 8800 mobile phone has won the “best of the best” prize at the red dot design awards, the world’s largest design competition. The 8800 beat off all competition to become the only mobile phone to receive this renowned design quality award.
The Nokia 8800 was singled out for its innovative, high quality design as well as for its smooth deskstand. It is the first mobile phone to use stainless steel and mineral glass in its sleekly sculpted body. Its features include a screen using more than 260,000 different colors to give striking clarity, and ringtones created by Ryuichi Sakamoto one of the world’s leading composers.
Out of 2,068 products submitted to the product design 2006 awards, only 36 received the coveted best of the best award for the best design in their category. In addition, 485 products were given the “red dot” seal of quality design and among the winners was the Nokia N90 that’s renowned for adding a twist to the classic clamshell.
Todd Wood, Director of Insight & Innovation from Nokia said, “On behalf of the team of designers and engineers who worked to create this groundbreaking design I am delighted to accept this award. They created a truly stunning design offering luxurious style and the highest quality features. Its appeal is reflected in its growing popularity with well over one million sold to date, and the North American version is about to hit stores in the U.S.”
Award winners including the designers of the Nokia 8800 will be honored today in a gala in Essen, Germany. The winning products will be showcased in a special exhibition from 27 June to 23 July, 2006 in the red dot design museum in Essen.

Samsung Electronics of Korea has inked an exclusive deal with MTI MicroFuel Cells of Albany, New York to work on implementing fuel cell batteries into future mobile phones. This deal is said to be worth in the neighbourhood of $1 million dollars, and is the first major contract of its kind to move the cellular phone industry toward fuel cell technology.

Sony has unveiled the PlayStation 3 controller at this year’s E3. The boomerang is out, and the DualShock is back in.

The PS3 controller will feature six axis of of movement — roll, pitch, and yaw.The PlayStation 3’s controller still features its wireless compatibility promised at E3 2005, and connects up for charging to the PS3 via USB.

Sony has announced the specific date and details of the PS3 launch. The PS3 will be arranged in two separate system configurations: a 20 and a 60 gigabyte hard drive system.
Japan will see the PS3 first 20 gigabyte system setup on November 11th. The 60 gigabyte system will be open in North America, Europe and Australasia on November 17th.

The price shall be $499 dollars for the 20 gig version, and $599 dollars for the 60 gig version. Sony also announced that it will try to get a grand total of six million units shipped by March 31, 2007.

Nokia and Yahoo! have come together and added Flickr support in Nokia Nseries Multimedia Computers.
Nokia and Yahoo!, announced today that they are making it easy for mobile photographers to upload and add comments to photos directly from their Nokia Nseries multimedia computers to Flickr, one of the largest online photo sharing community on the Web.
Users will be able to connect to their online Flickr accounts without the need to download or install any additional applications. The Nokia N93, Nokia N73 and Nokia N72, handsets which have also been announced today, are the first Nokia Nseries handsets to support Flickr.
So all you need is your Nokia Nseries handsets and a Flickr account and you can now store, share, sort and search for photos with millions of users out there.

The LF-MB121JD Blu-Ray DVD burner has been finally launched by Panasonic. According to panasonic the drive can record BD discs at 2x speed.

The drive can also can record DVD±R and DVD+RW at 8x speed, DVD±R DL at 4X speed, DVD-RW at 6X, DVD-RAM at 5X, CD-R at 24X and CD-RW at 16X speed respectively.

The iPod Nano/Shuffle are only ones that have been affected thankfully making it easier to to spot the fake ones. One can spot a fake ipod by noticing few things like it lacks a dock connector, ship without the standard USB cable, has missing buttons and “Digital Music Player” printed on top of the packaging.
